Under NFL rules: • The punter (or any member of the kicking team) can legally recover the blocked ball and kick it again if the ball never crossed the line of scrimmage. That’s called a second kick, and it’s allowed. • If the ball crosses the line of scrimmage and then comes back (like bouncing backward after being touched), it cannot be kicked again. At that point it has to be advanced like a normal scrimmage play (run or pass). • If the punter re-kicks after it crossed the line, it’s an illegal kick penalty (10 yards, loss of down).
The act of punting the ball has always been a voluntary forfeiture of possession . When did that change ? The NFL makes it up as they go along or changes the rules and doesn’t tell anybody until they want to manipulate outcomes
The funniest part is the "Rules Analysis" even got it wrong. But to be honest, I have played up through highschool and watched football on all levels for 30 years, and have never seen anything like this happen.
So its 4th and 5, your offensive is at the 50 yard line, center snaps the ball past the Qb, the Qb goes back to the reyrieve the ball and proceeds to kick the ball down the field. This is legal?
As long as the ball doesn't cross the LOS you can punt it as many times as you are able…there is no rule about "advancing the ball" most announcers know very little about football and he was confusing the punting rules with the passing rules
I don’t wanna see anyone in here giving Mike Pereria crap for getting it wrong. He most likely just didn’t know the rule. It happens. We all make mistakes. This in no way discredits him as an expert.
I’m sure the old cast was awful enough to replace and just replacing the trap and drain wasn’t an option. Never saw the inside of the old cast in the video.

Those uniforms look like kids pajamas
Dickson is worth his weight in gold.
Wait so isn't that a live ball then? So can the Seahawks pick it up and run it in the endzone
Even the play by play football announcers didn't know 💩what they were talking about! 🫵🧐🤨🤣🖕
As long as you don't cross the line of scrimmage.
Imagine getting a great block to set your offense up with first and goal only to then have them set up at their own 10, all on the same play.
This is exactly why I place a slice of cheese between my palms and cook my hands grilled cheese style!
As long as the ball didn’t go past the line of scrimmage…
Leave it to troy to not know the rules. A moron with a microphone. Only his partner in the booth is more worthless calling a game.
Had to watch it twice. Looks like the refs may have been looking to see if he crossed the line of scrimmage.
Because football is so stupid they no one even knows the rules that have stacked up and up and up over 100 years of bullshit.
It's not a loophole, he read the rule book.
No linemen where down field?
It so rare nobody knew.
one of the craziest lines to ever hear in commentary from a FOOTBALL match, you cannot kick it again lol tf
It's not a "loophole." It's a straightforward rule.
I bet the announcers feel stupid
If it's still behind the line of scrimmage you absolutely can kick it again. I learned that in junior high and I wasn't even the kicker

Would a different offensive player be allowed to punt it a second time?

That's what you call knowing your craft, he knew the rule and used it at the best possible time.
Illegal man downfield?? No?
This happens every few years and everybody forgets the rule in between it happening
They should be able to kick the “foot”ball as many times as possible.
lol and they call it football, no one knew the ball could be kicked more than once lmao.

How many linemen were downfield by the time he kicked it again?
Impressive how he scooped the ball up with one hand.

Shouldn't he know everything about his position? It's kind of common sense
