90s – mid 2000's pitchers would ABSOLUTELY feast in today's game. These hitters aren't even looking for anything except a damn heater. Maddox would be averaging 15 k's every start.
I went to my nephew’s little league practice and literally saw a coach trying to teach a 9 year old how to throw a curveball. I lost it. I told him that he’s going to wreck his elbow and secondly he should be teaching him to hit the corners first. Technique is more important than velocity when learning how to pitch.
I think it’s partially due to the fact that there are machines now, which means a can train to hit 100 mph balls in a daily basis, so a 90 mph feels really slow and easy to hit.
Zach Greinke and Trevor Bauer are two of the last pitchers who truly know how to pitch, shame we’ll never see Trevor in an MLB uniform again though. Get you head out of your ass MLB! Being that man back
Same wirh hitting… they teach power hitting… nothing else .. thats why the mendoza line no longer exists because guys hitting 40 hrs with 215 batting average.. and that's does very little for your team in a long season
They're teaching velocity because no one can throw a sub 95 fastball and have it not be a HR. You can't just throw offspeed anymore, hitters are too good. They'll take your 12.6 to the seats.
CC is spitting FACTS!! Theres no psychology in pitching anymore. They dont last past 5 innings and end up with arm injuries constantly. They don't work corners and pinpoint location.
Hitters now can square up a 92 mph fastball, so how do you avoid that? Throw it faster so they have to react quicker and get more whiffs. Hitters started evolving at the tail end of his career and they’ve only gotten better, so pitching had to evolve to what it is today.
I get why some may hate today's era of pitching (I don't love it either) but it's far more efficient. When you got all 30 teams more or less following the same formula, it works, these teams are not dumb, they have tons of data at their disposal. They just try to maximize effectiveness for as long as possible and move on to the next guy.
It kind of sucks when a pitcher gets lifted when he's thrown 85 through 6, but most likely it's just smart baseball. Manager's job isn't to play baseball how you like it, they just want to win. I think people should just realize the pursuit for efficiency in baseball often comes at a cost of timeless traditional baseball, but everyone should appreciate both sides of it.

They used to tell us as kids don’t guide the ball I now can throw 90mph consistent strikes may not be as fast but accurate on all sides of plate

Why is there always some old head bitching in EVERY sport?
Randy Johnson the GOAT of pitching. alot of greats but he's the GOAT
Miss Cc and Pettite
Velocity is speed + direction
Whats the problem? What does he mean they dont know where balls going. The pitcher obviously knows.
Lol cc can't touch skubals pitching skills

And no wonder why elbow injuries are common today than it was twenty years ago.
Just like every old head talking about the good old days that couldnt keep up with todays game
Can someone please tell me why it's so hard to hit the ball then😅
I completely agree I don’t play don’t I understand the art of pitching and it’s much more than velocity.
Spot on!
I dont understand people who hate soccer but love this trash ass boring sport and overrated NFL
100 percent agree

Aight but who would you rather bat against? 90 with command or 106 and wild
Couple this with the pitch clock and it’s no wonder why we have seen a spike in pitchers on IR.
Unless you can throw over 95 or you can mix it up like Maddux, you're getting hammered. There's no more small ball, it's HR or bust

Raise the mound back to 15 inches!

The pussification of MLB continues…..

Batting averages overall or done so what they're doing with pitching is working. Stop complaining about every damn thing.
